The Kwak is produced with three malt types, including roasted barley malt which gives the beer an amber, deep and luminous color, drawing enough for the pale color of caramel from the cup holde,  provides a unique contrast to this beer. Its predominant aroma is of slightly sweet and fruity malt.

It was named to honor Pauwel Kwak, owner and brewmaster of De Hoorninn Brewery (near Dendermonde) around 1791.

His brewery was famous among the drivers of the time, however by law, the local coachmen could not leave the carriages and horses through the streets to have their daily beer.

Pauwel Kwak then invented a glass that could be attached a carriage and so all the thristy drivers could go to the brewerys doorsand ask for a refil with this wonderful liquid without being punished.
