Karmeliet Tripel is a refreshing beer, with excellent foaming and a slightly sweet flavor.
It is still made with a authentic recipe from 1679, originated whithin a Carmelite Monastery in Dendermonde.
The Tripel nomination refers to the number of "crosses" marked on the barrels of beer to differentiate it from other styles produced.
The Belgians had the habit of washing the bagasse sometimes for extracting residual sugar retained between the husks and grains.
The liquid originated from the first mashing was intended to tripel style (three crosses), followed by a second extraction, todubbel (two crosses) and the third, to a weaker beer (a cross).
In 2008 it was awarded the Gold Medal at the World Beer Awards, forever enshrining this beer so traditional.
